BBA Bass Fishing

Creating this news story was such an awesome experience. Me and Blake went to Emerald lake to film the new bass fishing teams practice and to grab an interview of the coach. We got there and we waited for about thirty minutes for the team to show up because they were late. We stood there just filming random things working with the 50mm lense. They showed up and they got right into practice with a pro bass fisher giving them a tour of a bass fishing boat. we got some awesome B-roll of that. the team then proceeded to cast there rods in the parking lot of emerald lake into little buckets working on aim. we just kept fiming all of that. Finally they we walked sown the path to do some real fishing in the lake. we caught some really beautiful shots of the lake and of nature. Then we set up an interview with the coach and the shot came out really well and me and blake were super happy about it. We were going to film the interview with the 35mm lense but becuase we were getting such nice shots with the 50mm we decided to keep using it. We came back to BBA and finished it within an hour and it felt good to succesfully finish a project with no issues.

Documentary Review: For Lack of Better

For Lack of Better-

For Lack of Better is a documentary produced by a skier named Clayton Vila. It is about the lives of four skiers who test the human limits of skiing in urban environments. These men have to much more then ski; they have to set up cameras, film, work the winch, and set up lighting. A winch is a spool of string that is attached to a motor and basically, you hold on to one end and another person holds the throttle and it pulls you. Technically what these guys are doing is illegal because some of the time they are vandalizing and most of the time trespassing. They rent the cheapest hotels possible, sometimes sleeping in there car, and they eat the cheapest food possible. They make a living out of doing what they love and definitely nothing luxurious.

My favorite part of this movie is definitely the B-roll and all of the beautiful shots they used while people were being interviewed. These people were skiing in a city and every time they would wake up in the morning they would be talking about what they were doing and while they were talking, they had B-roll of the sunrise over the city, of people walking around, and of birds or other animals in the city. I also liked the interviews they did. The skiers would be interviewed in a pitch black room with probably one light hitting there face at an angle.  They made the skiers seem really emotional when they were speaking. In the beginning, They started the movie with interviews. They also started by showing the injuries and some of the troubles these skiers had been through by showing some older clips with kind of a staticky look to them with the year they were filmed on it. Also, in all of the interviews they had music playing in the background to bring out the mood of all of the skiers.

I completely recommend this movie. This subject is just so interesting because they are doing insane things that test the human limits and its the side of a sport that is so quiet and so un seen by the general population. These men risk there lives every day just so they can do something they love and so they can barely make a living. This is by far one of my favorite movies and would highley suggest to watch this. This is also a subject that I love to watch and actually do, and it is my dream to make a film like this.

News Ideas

I want to do a news story about the park crew at magic mountain. I think this would be cool because magic is going in an up words direction with many changes for the better. One thing they are doing this year, is getting a park together. It would also be convenient because me, Ian Anglum, Trevor Finaldi, and Oscar Loomis, all work on the park crew there. We are all in class together so I think we could put something pretty cool and interesting together.
